The MBA-CPA Dual Masters Program offered by the ICFAI University, Tripura prepares men and women with the skills, knowledge and strategic perspectives essential to the leadership of business anywhere in the world.

Two Streams

The Dual Masters Program consists of two streams: MBA and CPA.

The MBA stream is designed to provide both a portfolio of strong functional skills and the ability to apply, adapt, synthesize and integrate those skills into different management settings. The CPA stream provides an in-depth understanding of accounting and financial insights. The knowledge of which can be applied in accounting and auditing services, taxation, consulting, research, etc.

Through the Dual Masters Program, the students may acquire two career-oriented professional qualifications in management and accounting and also save precious time. Instead of the normal duration of 4 years (two years for MBA and two years for CPA) the students of the Dual Masters Program may complete the same in 27 months.

Eligibility

Graduation (any discipline) with 55% and above.

CFAs/CAs/CWAs/CSs are also encouraged to apply.

For those aspiring to pursue fast-track careers in the sunrise sectors, the Dual Masters Program is the most suited. The MBA stream prepares them for management and leadership positions. The CPA stream coupled with appropriate choice of electives in MBA stream, deepens their accounting and financial insights. This will be a unique skill-set combining analysis and synthesis; operations and strategy.

Duration: 27 months.

Medium of instruction: English.

Students who have pursued their degree program in non-English medium are advised to undergo proper preparatory courses in Business English so that they can cope with the Dual Masters Program.

Validity of enrolment

The students are required to complete Stage I of the Dual Masters Program within a maximum period of three years from the date of enrolment. Students who are unable to complete Stage I within three years, but are still keen on continuing in the program, are required to register de novo by paying the requisite fee.

The Dual Masters Program is based on study and examinations, with 3600 flexibility for students.

The MBA Stream

Objectives

The MBA stream aims to improve the students' capability to manage. On completion of the program, students are expected to have acquired:

  • a systematic approach to identification of business problems and their solutions.

  • analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • the ability to make competent decisions.

  • soft skills for becoming effective managers.

  • the skills necessary for the potential senior manager, techniques in finance, marketing, manufacturing, human relations, information technology and strategic planning.

  • familiarity in applying these tools in business like situations.

  • a broad knowledge of concepts, policies and techniques applicable to efficient administration and management of business.

General Management Focus

In a business environment characterized by rapid change, managers must necessarily be flexible and adaptable. The MBA stream seeks to prepare managers to cope with this change. It is this philosophy which has led to the MBA stream adopting a general management approach. This approach will help students develop a broad foundation of skills and knowledge in the diverse functional areas of business management.

The CPA Stream

Objectives

The CPA stream has following broad objectives:

  • To encourage aspiring students equip themselves with the latest tools and techniques in accounting.

  • To develop contemporary body of knowledge and skill-set and make them available for those seeking careers in professional accounting.

  • To provide interdisciplinary insights into accounting, auditing, taxation and laws & regulations for developing holistic perspectives.

  • To deepen insights into practical applications of accounting in a dynamic business environment.

Focus Areas

The focus areas of the CPA stream include accounting, auditing and assurance, taxation, laws and regulations and allied areas.

The Common Approach

The Dual Masters Program follows the following distinctive but inter-related approaches :

  • Basic Knowledge aimed at improving students' understanding of certain fundamental phenomena and relationships underlying the changing world of management and accounting.

  • Tools and Techniques are required to equip students improve their analytical ability and power of integration and synthesis in the context of management and accounting.

  • Application Areas linking the theoretical studies to the practical problems faced by managers, who need to be specialists (in Accounting) and generalists (in Management).

  • Professional Ethics aimed at inculcating in the students an ethical approach in their professional interactions and a sense of personal, corporate, and social responsibilities.

Exit Option

The students of the Dual Masters Program can exercise the exit option after successful completion of Stage I. Depending on their choice they may exit from the Stage II of MBA stream and continue in Stage II of CPA stream; or the otherway round. Then they pay reduced fee as applicable to the MBA or CPA stream as per their choice.

Waivers

In addition the students of the Dual Masters Program can claim waivers in 4 subjects of the MBA stream as indicated below:

However no waivers are given in the CPA stream based on passing certain subjects in the MBA stream.
