Master
in Public Policy
The
MPP Program is offered by the ICFAI University, Tripura with the
objective of training future leaders, decision makers, and policy
analysts to take on the challenges of the 21st century.
The
program offers a unique blend of theory and practical application,
which encourages students to constantly think in terms of policy
formulation, implementation, evaluation and analysis.
It
is an intensive program, which integrates various disciplines as
diverse as politics, environment, economics, and sociology and
places them in the context of public policy.
The
program equips students with skills, knowledge and strategic
perspectives essential for leadership roles in public policy. The
program is designed to provide a portfolio of strong functional
skills and the ability to apply, adapt and integrate these skills to
different administrative and political settings.
MPP
students can assess policies critically and find alternatives, learn
techniques for developing and evaluating policy options, and enhance
their critical research and analytical skills.
It
further enables students to have a comprehensive understanding of
policy concentrations in the fields of poverty, rural and urban
development, the non-profit sector, governance, environment and
globalization.
Comparable
to an MBA for the Social Sector
MPP
is comparable to an MBA for the social sector, as it caters to the
growing demand for comprehensive policy professionals equipped to
take on the challenges of globalization, as frontiers of national
and international decision-making are being redefined by governments
and civil society.

Eligibility
The
following candidates are eligible for admission into the MPP
program.

Duration:
Two years.
Medium
of Instruction:
English
Students
who have pursued their degree program in non-English medium are
advised to undergo proper preparatory courses in Business English so
that they can cope with the MPP Program.
Validity
of Enrollment
The
students are required to complete the MPP Program within a period of
seven years from the date of enrollment. However, serious students
who study regularly and take the examinations regularly can complete
the program in two years on an accelerated track. Students who are
unable to complete the program within the validity period of seven
years, but still keen on continuing the program, are required to
register de novo by paying the requisite fee.
Subject-wise
Waivers
Subject
to approval from the ICFAI University, students with prior
appropriate educational and professional qualifications may be
eligible for subject-wise waivers.
For
example, a student who has completed M.A.( Economics) with a minimum
score of 50% or 2nd class or equivalent, is eligible for subject
waivers in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Public Finance and Fiscal
Policy, and Development Economics.
Students
seeking waivers should send qualifying certificates and mark lists
to the ICFAI University for verification and approval. The decision
regarding grant of waivers is final.
360o
Flexi-mode
The
MPP Program is based on study and examinations with 360o
flexibility for students.
a.
Study:
The University provides a detailed study plan and prescribed books
specially designed and meant for self-study.
b.
Examinations: The
examinations serve to finally assess the students' understanding
of the subject and level of skill development. The examinations
are conceived, developed, and administered within a rigorous
system with the view to grooming professionals. They are generally
conducted on Sundays, four times a year in January, April, July
and October.
Eligibility
for Appearing in Examinations
Students
will be eligible to appear for Group A examinations five months
after the date of enrollment provided all fee dues are paid in full.
Subsequently, they can appear for two groups every three months.
Students are required to appear and pass the groups in a sequential
order.
Online
Registration Facility
All
students are required to register for their examinations (including
payment of fee) using the online facility only, as the operations of
examinations department are fully computerized.
Membership
in Alumni Federation
All
the students who successfully complete the MPP Program are eligible
to become the members of the Alumni Federation subject to
fulfillment of the criteria prescribed for such membership.
Certification
The
following diplomas/degrees are issued by the ICFAI University,
Tripura to the successful students for stage-wise completion of the
MPP Program.
